Is it not insurance companies and lawyers who have fueled this health and safety obsession ?
They will not protect 'public spaces' and businesses from the suing public with out all these rules in place.
Though i find all those yellow 'wet floor' bollards particularly annoying, especially when you trip over one !

Rog, I lived for several years at a slightly lower grade of fear for my life than people in Afghanistan do. And it's true that it does wear you down, but equally it's true that for most people the option offered by life in the UK is a drab, colourless alternative.

I am frequently bemused by the trivial things that exercise us and can only conclude that we get exercised by these things because we have no survival-level challenges left to face.

Maybe those are the very things needed to jolt most people awake and stop them relying on 'nanny' state to look after them.

The big problem in the UK today is that most people don't have to think. Indeed the current generation has not been taught to think in school. The labor edukashon, edukashon, edukashon is a travesty of the education of the past and we are left with feral yoof in the cities and all that implies.

Until such time as there is a drastic change in the way things are run in the UK, with people being responsible for their own actions, everything will remain the same - or get worse.

Life is indeed an extremely good programme, David Attenborough has excelled himself (though not entirely sure exactly what work he did, other than narrate).

I googled Candiru fish, ouch.

It makes me wonder, what other countries have similar risks to ours, in terms of nature, and if they have a similar culture? Some of the Scandinavian countries I believe have few dangerous animals.
