What to do with a Shrink on the Brink?

by Anna Raccoon on November 8, 2009

nidalAmidst the politically correct carnage which is the American corporate media trying to write something, anything, on the meltdown of politics and religion triggered, quite literally,  by Major Hasan Nidal at Fort Hood, without offending anyone……..perish the thought! -  something is troubling me greatly.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations are ‘urging calm‘ amidst fears that retribution will be exacted on the Muslim population in America. We must spare a thought for these potential victims.

The FBI are claiming ‘this is not a terror attack’. You just thought you were terrified, see?

The Christian Science Monitor is concerned about ‘overwhelmed Army psyciatrists’. ‘ Nidal was a victim too’.

CNN is wailing that Nidal ‘would have experienced emotional toil after intense exposure to patients stories of horror’.  Nidal the victim again.

The BBC, God rest their lily livered soul, is consumed by fears that this ‘devout Muslim’ may have been broken - broken, no less – by plans to deploy him to a war zone. Obviously a totally unexpected action on the part of the Army which had put him thorough medical school. A war zone, whatever were they thinking of? Pity poor Nidal.

Other commentators have detailed how deeply upset he was when another soldier tore off his bumper sticker saying Allahu Akbar – he reported it as a ‘hate crime’.  189494-fort-hoodHis local convenience store has said he ‘appeared perfectly normal’ when – see screen shot right – he appeared at 7am in his white dishdasha and skull cap to do his morning shopping.

The Army and local law enforcement were  apparently unperturbed at forcing a man to Afghanistan – only because he had refused deployment in Iraq  – who had described the US Army as ‘the aggressor’ in Internet postings.

A former superior officer at Walter Reed, meanwhile, acknowledged anonymously that issues with Major Hasan’s performance in the psychiatry unit had arisen in his years there, and that he had been put under special supervision and required counselling. He had also been heard voicing his misgivings about the war in Iraq and getting into arguments with fellow soldiers, which carried on at Fort Hood.

The ‘moderate Islamic community’ were apparently unperturbed by a man who trotted out of his regular Friday prayer meetings at the local mosque to purchase a semi-automatic ‘cop killer’ and ammunition in the ‘Guns Galore‘  store across the road. His previous Mosque now reports that he gave his Nationality as Palestinian when he lodged his details during a futile search for a ‘devout Muslim wife’. A little strange for a member of the US Armed Forces?

His next door neighbour, Charlie Bell, reports that Hassan had phoned him at 5am to say Good-bye, which he thought was ‘just a nice touch’.

In all this comment, I have failed to find one word regarding the near 70,000 troops stationed at Fort Hood, most being battle weary men ‘held over’ for a relatively short period to evaluate their physical and mental health before being ‘released’ into the community on leave.

Men who are prepared to give up their lives on the order of their commander-in-chief simply because it is their duty deserve every support. They deserve guns which fire straight, and plenty of them. They deserve the best in armour, vehicles and aircraft. They deserve the best in food and medical equipemnt.

When they return from battle in Islamic lands, traumatised and injured in myriad ways, they deserve a damn sight better than to find they must attend a mental evaluation with a shrink in a long white dress, quoting from the Quoran at them, who is patently traumatised at the thought of being asked to deploy to the battle field.

Did no one think to report that this Shrink was simply unfit for purpose, as much use as a gun that wouldn’t fire or an aircraft with no wings, long before he started shooting?

Is there no simple Army requirement that a Shrink must, at a minimum, be saner than his sickest patients?

Or was the fact that he was a Muslim considered to be a reasonable excuse for all his little peccadilloes?

Answer to question posed in final para:

Yes

We employ the same philosophy in the UK.

But the politicos who frame the rules never suffer the consequences of their moral cowardice.

To be honest, I’m getting a little tired (to say the least) with the MSM making out that the perpetrator is somehow a victim. Yes the man was clearly deranged, however it was as a result of conflicts caused by his religion. There is coming a time when western civilisation is going to have to decide whether the religion of peace is worth allowing in our territories. This jibes pretty badly with my libertarianism, however incidents like this plus the immigration of radical Islamics to the west does give me pause for thought. If they can’t or wont integrate into our society, then they really can’t be allowed to stay.
I know this guy was native born, but sooner or later there’s going to have to be something done about a religion that can let their followers justify this sort of thing. I know other religions have their whackjobs, but it seems islam specialises in them when it comes to barbarism.

from what i have ascertained, it was two of his patients who did the shooting, zionists own the media so dont expect any
impartiality

Quis custodiet custodes? Who were the senior psychiatrists evaluating this flawed man? The reports of his frailties show the authorities knew he was not stable, so the buck should stop there.
Blaming Islam is not helpful – there are already too many interpreting the Koran to suit their murderous ways.

The senior psychiatrists were probably too busy having counselling in respect of their own transgender issues to worry about him. I think the whole lot of them are barking.
It just makes me so angry that this entire incident has been hijacked by the Muslim issue, when in fact it is a plain malfunction of shoddy equipment issued to the troops – ie. psychiatrist, help and counselling, use of.
How could they possibly have thought he was good enough? He should have been chucked out as soon as they had problems with him in his training school.

doing all that damage with two pistols, must be the most cost effective soldier ever. aka alrambo

8 ivan November 8, 2009 at 22:59

The whole thing has to do with the Muslim side – after all they must make it appear almost benign and not the result of some radicalization and/or terrorist incident otherwise it would make Obama look bad.

I do agree that those in charge are equally to blame for not sacking him – but then again the Muslim card would have been played. What is it with the western world that we can not say anything against some jumped up arab religion without the PC lovies getting upset?

now its one pistol, 20 rounds in a clip, this shrink should have been a foot soldier, he,s very good

12 alrambo November 9, 2009 at 06:15

puny ,5.7 x 28 mm ammunition , a pistol by definition has to be small to fit in the hand, and if its automatic it,s not very accurate, methinks there where lots of soldiers firing, its called critical thinking anna

13 Jabba the Cat November 9, 2009 at 08:44

@ alrambo

I suggest you do some homework on ballistics, that is one very nasty high velocity round, but for a pistol giving very low recoil hence enabling high accuracy especially if you are well trained in combat pistol shooting, the proof of the pudding being the high body count. You can be sure that sales of that pistol will rise dramatically.

Compare that to the off duty police officer who needed four rounds of 9mm to bring the perp down.

14 alrambo November 9, 2009 at 09:36

jabba the cat, judging from the time on your post 8.44am, are you from a certain middle east country, i wonder?

15 john ward November 9, 2009 at 11:23

Sooner or later, the Muslim world will run out of excuses. Both article and comment thread show once again:
1. Islamic and Islamist as a ‘difference’ are simply spin terms.
2. The US/UK/EU situation regarding Islam is analogous to 1938 – except that this time there’s the equivalent of two million Germans living here, and we don’t know who the Nazis are.
3. The idea that anyone in the West would even bother to demonise a mysoginist religion spearheaded by madmen (and based on roughly the same approach as the Spanish Inquisition) is idiotic.
4. As always, watch what the folks do – not what they say.

We must stop appeasing, and wake up to the fact that expansionist Islam is one of THE great cancers of our time. These guys don’t like us, and they don’t want to negotiate for any reason beyond playing for time. (pace Iran/Ahmadinnejehad at the moment).
Yesterday Man
PS I have a theological question that puzzles me and I need some help: if you get to Islamic Heaven and one of the 77 slappers is your sister, must you therefore stone her? I just wondered.

“… judging from the time on your post 8.44am, are you from a certain middle east country, i wonder?”

I would suggest your powers of deduction are on par with your grasp of firearm ballistics…

17 Roger Dodger November 9, 2009 at 12:32

This is the case where political correctness turned deadly.

Unless the press have gone mad this is turning out to be a guy displaying tons of warning signs yet having no superiors willing to cross the PC brigade at work in the US army.

This BBC bullshit about the impending tour to Afghanistan is very frustrating. He was an army psychiatrist for gods sake. He would be under about the same physical risk as any journalist, NGO or politician sent to Kabul. This seems to imply that a soldier being sent to war is expected to act up or flip out at the thought of actually conducting a tour and that this is somehow justified. Typical beeb. It’s a volunteer army FFS.

As for the 5.7: I have used that ammunition (from the P90 rather than the pistol). It is far more accurate and lower recoil than 9m with about three times the effective range. It is a considerably more lethal round also with much greater energy dissipation in target. I would suggest even with only one pistol he is changing magazines in 2-3 seconds so it would not be difficult for a half decent shot (he has had years in the army and also had a laser sight apparently) to do that against unarmed people.

I would suggest your powers of deduction are on par with your grasp of firearm ballistics… by way of deception jabba

19 alrambo November 9, 2009 at 17:49

The government is trying almost too hard to make this case that Major Hasan was an Al Qaeda (and 9-11) linked terrorist, because I do not think they understand that the message they are sending out to those who believe the official story is that all this spying on Americans doesn’t work.

If you believe the official story (I don’t) and trust the US government (you shouldn’t) then the spooks “knew” Hasan had terror sympathies and still could not prevent him from carrying out a mass shooting with a high-powered rifle, no wait, he used two handguns, no wait, he was armed with a Belgian semi-automatic pistol, no wait, he used a FN Five-Seven, ummm, make that a light-saber.

“he used two handguns, no wait, he was armed with a Belgian semi-automatic pistol, no wait, he used a FN Five-Seven,”

Er… the Five-Seven is a belgian semi-auto pistol. If he had two of them what’s the problem?

I really hope that you are not one of these ‘Dick Cheney flew planes into thermite filled towers’ types.

Ah ok Alrambo. I am sure it is the boredom due to your highly exciting life and not the fact that your nonsense is exposed.

Either way, best of British.

children! stop quarelling

34 terry wogan November 9, 2009 at 19:26

i have some sympathy with alrambo, it does seem that the perpetrator was a bit of an expert marksman, and he shot approx 40 trained soldiers, and was only disabled by a hero woman cop, hollywood could not have scripted it better

35 Anna Raccoon November 9, 2009 at 19:30

Play nicely children or I shall have to take one of you out with my pea shooter.

36 terry wogan November 9, 2009 at 19:37

is that a pee shooter…. smirk

37 RogerDodger November 9, 2009 at 20:07

Terry, you are right about that. The other chap seemed to be fishing though.

When I first heard about this I told myself to wait at least a week for it to settle before really thinking about it and the implications. Hard not to though.
Despite the really rapid and unreliable first ‘facts’ and misunderstandings from any event like this, this one in particular has so many spin pressures that it is going to have some credibility trouble later.
Because the potential effects and implications of what this is rapidly proving to be are very grave and morale sapping I want to wait to hear more details and know exactly what we are dealing with.

I was pretty shocked with how immediately Mark Steyn was diving in. It seemed like he was almost claiming it as vindication of his wider hypothesis whilst they were still saying it was three people. Risky but he may well not be wrong.

Don’t shoot me.

38 terry wogan November 9, 2009 at 20:08

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRZUUEpTFL0 vid of pistol in action he,s holding it with two hands a bit of recoil there!

39 RogerDodger November 9, 2009 at 20:37

I doubt the host wants this to turn into Guns & Ammo,

However!:

Thanks for that. Don’t agree though I think he was pretty poor. Check some of the other vids and wait for a pro:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OuObz02Gto&feature=related
Dunno if you shoot pistols but that is very little recoil IMHO.
Check the ‘versus 9mm’ one and see just how much more dangerous the modern round is. Like 4-5 times more damage. Higher velocity. It is so much more lethal than the pre-WW1 9mm rounds.
We should probably wait before we de construct the ‘official version’ on such details and hypothesises.

40 Spartan November 9, 2009 at 21:22

Our own Government has done far more damage to the very fabric of our country than any terrorist organisation could ever hope to achieve.

So much so that they don’t even have to actually carry out any attacks anymore … they just have to say they are. The Government will then duly oblige and bring in more draconian regs. lt’s bloody insane!
