Will Hutton has a lengthy piece in today’s Guardian entitled “Stick up for the BBC. It’s the last bulwark against rule by the mob”.
He complains about the ‘bile, unfairness and lack of restraint in the blogosphere’ infecting the mainstream media and thus American politics, and warns that if we do not support the BBC, committed to ‘impartiality and accuracy’ as it is, we will lose the ‘last bulwark against populist government by the mob’.
This morning the BBC web site is carrying a piece concerning Tory MP Philip Hollobone.
Headline – A Conservative MP has been warned he could face legal action if he refuses to meet constituents who wear burkas or niqabs, which hide their faces.
The Kettering MP said he needed to meet voters face-to-face.
He added he would invite those who did not remove their veil to communicate in a different way, such as by letter.
James Welch, legal director for Liberty, added: “We have written to Mr Hollobone to advise him of the law as enacted by Parliament and feel confident that no well-advised Honourable Member would seek to breach it by meeting with constituents on a discriminatory basis.”
Nasty racist, possibly criminal, Tory MP…….

Some Muslim women called his remarks insulting, but other Muslims said they understood his concerns.
No quotes regarding possible legal action and support from the Muslim community for his views…….

The BBC is saintly and above reproach. They are totally impartial and report every news item with balance. As the new Dark Ages are nearly upon us, they provide a bastion of probity. Now may I have Hutton’s job?

Anyone in public position who is faced with one of these female darth vader clones wanting to see him should have a variety of options available.
1) His own Burka.
2) A Darth Vader uniform.
3) An old fashioned changing screen he can draw in front of his desk.

4) A batman outfit.
5) A bucket over his head.
If someone is as discourteous as these cretins are, to want an interview whilst having a bag over their heads, then the obvious solution is to join in the game.

But will Hutton is right the BBC is the last bastion of the discredited Nu Labour movement. Since it was taken over in the purge following the Kelly affair, it has been a willing puppet of the Fabians.
It failed to report Dan Hannan’s mincemeating of the dearly departed Brown in the EU for two days, when the Blogoshere and internet carried it round the world for the sensation it was, a real opposition politician doing some effective opposing. The BBC just suppressed it, until it was becoming embarrassing that it was not carrying the story.
Stick the BBC on a subscription based card access system. Then they will have to cut their cloth accordingly whilst the rest of us can quite happily survive without them and not have to worry about not paying their broadcast tax shakedown.
