Why do people with strange beliefs still feel entitled to special respect? Why are we still expected to give it?

If I insisted that the earth was flat I wouldn’t feel entitled to be treated with reverance and special consideration.

I’m with Minnette Marrin (I wish) who wrote succinctly last year, ‘aggressive religions in search of, or having achieved, a State monopoly are always a force for evil. But on the whole, burnt-out religions with no power are usually a force for good’.
But that isn’t what you asked for, M’lud. Or M’lady. Or M’person of high rank. My Ten Blogmandments would be:
1. Thou shalt not underestimate a judge’s ability to be a fuckwit, paedophile or sadist
2. Thou shalt employ a Brief with the sort of ethics which aimed low and missed
3. Thou shalt call as rebuttal witnesses any and all social workers in the vicinity prepared to defend the human rights of anyone who is not a mother, child, vulnerable eccentric or Caucasian bloke
4. Thou shalt have no other Gods but those keen on mercifully killing unbelievers and maiming women
5. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s site, nor even unto his links, feeds, daily hits and sources
6. Thou shalt not commit adultery with the Establishment
7. Thou shalt appeal under all circumstances if laughed out of Court to the EU Court of Human Rights, who will look kindly upon your person should it be in possession of murderous equipment
8. Thou shalt not kill any rumour however barmy if thou art sure that there are enough conspiracy theorists out there willing to cleave to its nonsense and thus up your hits by 200%
9. Thou shalt use any and all weapons at thy disposal to rid the world of leaders who did what they thought was right, did what their Daddies told them, and did solemnly swear they did not have sexual intercourse with that woman
10. Thou shalt not give information about pills to Andrew Marr in the hope that he might ask questions about the right ones.
Funny how there’s always ten.
