I’d seen this ad and thought Channel 5 were impressively quick off the mark – I anticipate more of these er, documentaries? will be coming soon to a channel near you.
But I missed the Wonga ad at the end of this clip. WOW! Now that really IS tasteless. That made even me wince.

I agree about the ‘Wonga’ advert. This company, like many others, target their advertising at the sections of society that are in desperate financial straits and then charge outrageous interest rates, up to well over 1000% APR. They should be classified in the same category as unlicensed loan sharks.

The APRs are only outrageous because the APR calculations are geared up for long terms loans like mortgages. Payday loans and similar are meant to be paid back within a short period of time, typically a month. As far as I gather, if you do find yourself unable to payback a loan from Wonga, they will at least freeze the interest after notification. ICBW and it’s one of the other companies, but at least one of them does this.

Just don’t expect as good a deal from a real loan shark. That interest never gets frozen…

Yes. Real loan sharks wouldn’t be making body bag jokes about dead singers – and they wouldn’t be joking.

All in the best possible taste….. as the late Kenny Everett might have said

Somewhat OT Anna, but I know you take an interest in matters legal, so have a look at how Dominic Strauss-Kahn’s lawyer tried to defend his client in a recent radio interview. Possibly the greatest defence in legal history.

Classic case of the wooden table. *
