Draw your own conclusions.

No more ‘Gaunt stranded in Tenerife’, no more ‘SunTalk live rescues stranded Brits’ – how will the Costa Del Crime survive and remain informed without the foul mouthed Gaunt to keep them abreast of events?

Gaunt lost his case this week against Ofcom, and was censured for referring to a local councillor as a Nazi, as he famously did on ‘TalkSport’.

The ‘home of free speech’ as they liked to refer to themselves, was no longer the home of free speech, and within forty eight hours was no longer…….

News International say there is no connection.

However, with some 80 jobs being cut in the rarefied world of the Sunday Times, it might have been questioned had the cost of keeping Gaunt on air been allowed when ‘proper investigative journalism’ was being pared to the bone.

‘SunTalk’ was regulated by the Press Complaints Commission rather than Ofcom, and Gaunt told Roy Greenslade last year:

Gaunt was bubbling when we met, extolling the virtues of being free to say what he thinks without the constrictions of the broadcasting regulators. Today’s Sun promotion for SunTalk refers to him as a “motormouth” and refers to the fact that he has been called “the most rabid ranter on radio.”

Not any longer.

I’m shocked — shocked, I tell you! Not that this radio station has closed, because I’d never heard of it much less listened in. No, I’m shocked that you HAVE heard of it, and have heard this Gaunt person, who sounds like the Richard Littlejohn of the wireless set.

I guess even nice ladies like you, Anna, need to go slumming in their tiaras every so often, in the down-town area of the radio waves. To catch a glimpse of the sleazy side of life, in the land of the footie-fans and Moat worshippers, where men are men and the women get ‘em out for the lads.

I just hoped you’ve washed your hands, that’s all.

O that he was another Littlejohn, Lenko; sharp, witty, incisive, intelligent.

Instead we got the grand-daddy of chavs, constantly banging on about how rich he is and how much he hates chavs.

If there is justice in this world (there is, sometimes) he will go bankrupt. Again.

“Sharp, witty, incisive, intelligent?”

I recognise you as Richard Littlejohn, and I claim the Five Pounds!

This man is perhaps the most pompous fool I’ve ever heard on a radio station. I used to listen to TalkSport quite often (still do in the middle of the night to fall asleep) but a few mornings of listening to how great he is and his absolute rudeness was enough. I was delighted he was sacked and I’m just as delighted his radio show has finished. Maybe he’ll have to sell his pad in Cyprus I think it was.
